The Superb Owl

In designing this website I felt the need for a logo. I have used a number of different images in the past, but for the site’s inauguration I wanted something new. One of my initial ideas was a kind of glyph using my initials. I had created such glyphs several times in the distant past, but those were not quite right for my current self. I played around with various arrangements, and the logo you see here is what came out.

I like the way an owl is suggested, can you see it? As a fan of classical references I will note that the Owl of Athena (the Greek goddess of wisdom) symbolizes wisdom, knowledge, insight, and the ability to perceive what others miss. The owl's ability to see in the dark also suggests discernment and observing truth beneath surface appearances, all of which seem desirable goals for an artist.
